WTF Happened to Phone Booth?
Joel Schumacher made a lot of great (and not so great) movies during his lifetime, but one of his boldest films ever was 2002’s Phone Booth starring Colin Farrell. At the time, Farrell was a rising star, and the film was actually written by B-movie genre king Larry Cohen (It’s Alive), who dipped his toe into another genre with this – very successfully. Despite all taking place in and around a phone booth, just before they were eliminated entirely, the film was a significant hit, earning close to 100 million worldwide against a 13 million budget. So why did all involved decide to make a movie about a Phone Booth in an era where everyone was already using cell phones? We’ll dig into it in this episode of WTF Happened to this Movie!
