Tragic Story of Narcissus
In Greek Mythology, Narcissus was a beautiful young man, son of river god Cephissus and the nymph Liriope. At a young age, a blind seer predicted that he will have long life if he never recognizes himself. Narcissus grows up to be a beautiful young man who everyone loves, but he doesn’t return anyone’s affection. During his 16th year, after getting lost while hunting, a beautiful nymph Echo fall in love with him. It is said that a young man named Ameinius also fall in love with Narcissus. Narcissus rejected both of them. On dying Ameinius cursed Narcissus and goddess of revenge Nemesis listened to him. Narcissus eventually falls in love with his own reflection in a pool of water and is unable to pull himself away resulting his tragic death. In death, Narcissus’s body transformed into a daffodil. The myth of Narcissus aims to pass along the dangers of vanity and pride.
