If you want to improve your monitor’s response times – check out my other short explaining response times if you don’t know what I’m talking about – the best trick is to change the overdrive mode. Basically, when your monitor goes to change colour, with no overdrive it will just set the panel to the correct level. That can be pretty slow though, so overdrive will set the panel to open or close way more than you actually want, then at the right time it’ll change the target back to the right point. Ideally that will mean you get the speed benefit of a big change but you still get to the right light output level. A lot of the time though you get what’s called overshoot. Basically the crystals will fly past the target meaning you get way too much (or too little) light, and it takes time for that to calm down and output the correct level. That’s often called “inverse ghosting”.
