Michael Crichton’s classic adventure story “The Great Train Robbery” is a dazzling thrill-ride across the English countryside following a master thief’s greatest heist. Celebrating its film release anniversary today, “The Great Train Robbery” novel was awarded the Edgar award in 1980.

During filming, Crichton was swept into the action when his hair accidentally caught on fire from the cinders of the locomotive. As he was trying to extinguish the blaze, the film’s frontrunner Sean Connery fell off the train while shooting a running sequence from car to car. After the take, Crichton asked Sean if he was alright. Sean responded “Did you know that your hair was on fire? You ought to be more careful up there.”
