Jurassic Park The Game Full Game Walkthrough No Commentary
Today we archive a very special game as its one of those game that is very difficult to come by nowadays. Originally Jurassic Park The Game launched for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It was an adventure style game set in the universe of Jurassic Park and was made by Telltale before they had their big breakthrough with The Walking Dead Season 1.
But since then it is not available on Steam anymore and finding copies of the PS3 and Xbox 360 version can be tricky. Luckily I had purchased this game on Steam right when it came out and therefore it still sits in my Steam library. Its an example of how even digital game collections can hold some true treasures that are no longer available and therefore deserve to be archived.
Telltale games blew up worldwide with their megahit The Walking Dead (which I hope to archive too someday) but already had made plenty of adventure games before that. Most notably were Sam & Max, various CSI games and even a Back To the Future game. All these games played more like point and click adventures where you did not control the character directly, but pointed to where the characters should move to.
That is the same case with Jurassic Park the Game. We follow a varied cast of characters who we do not directly control, but rather point towards objects and areas to interact with. Heading to another area is done with the press of a specific button rather than going there via direct control. Now because of this the game can feel a bit static and it is definitely a bit of a dated feeling.
But the atmosphere and the fact that it all takes place in the world of Jurassic Park makes up for it. The game is littered with tiny easter eggs and references to the films and its a true joy to play. Especially the first episode since it actually takes place during the first movie and you will visit various places that were direct scenes in Spielberg’s masterpiece.
There are also plenty of action segments where it all comes down to quick time events which were very popular to use back in those days. Later Telltale games felt more like they took the formula from Heavy Rain where they combined action paced quick time events with direct-control adventure sequences. So from a gameplay perspective Jurassic Park can sometimes feel a bit slow or dated, but I still feel this is from a lost era of gaming for Telltale and in adventure games in general. The real star are the story and its setting. Every time you meet a new dinosaur its so exciting and some of the action moments are super tense. There are even some cool twists and turns I did not see coming and I will always think fondly of the game and think it should not be forgotten.
