During an interview on Sky News with journalist Kaye Burley, British Foreign Secretary and former Prime Minister David Cameron slammed Iran’s retaliatory strike as a “dangerous and reckless… almost a total failure/”. But when Burley asked “What would Britain do if a hostile nation flattened one of our consulates?” as Israel had done to an Iranian consulate in Syria, his hypocrisy was revealed. As Middle East scholar Assal Rad points out, Cameron’s analysis revealed not just a double standard but a racist orientalist attitude towards Iran and a total dehumanization of Palestinians. He’s more outraged by the potential Israeli civilians who could have been killed (had Iran not telegraphed its strike) than he is about the tens of thousands of actual Palestinians who have been slaughtered by Israel.
