Widespread flooding in northern France has led to several of people having to evacuate their waterlogged homes, the closure of schools and public buildings on Tuesday.

In Bourthes, a village in Pas-de-Calais crossed by the Aa river, floodwater with brown water invaded the main road on Tuesday morning. Residents said the water rose knee-high and was flowing rapidly into homes.

Eight rivers were placed in orange flood warning status in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais regions, including the Liane River, Hem River, Aa River, Lys River, Lawe River, upper reaches of La Clarence, Lys Plaine and Canche.
